It’s been two in a half weeks today that Chet and I have been living in Northwest Montana. It’s been a cold, but great couple weeks. I finally get to live with my husband!!! Woo Hoo. I’m now getting an idea of what married life is like and I love it. We’ve spent the past three weekends at home in Marion, but during the week we’re in Great Falls, MT (about a five hour drive). Even though we haven’t spent a ton of time in our apartment, at least we’re together. God blessed us with a great apartment on base that has everything we need and more.
I’ve been enjoying Great Falls so much. Chet’s alarm goes off at 4:40am. He gets ready for work and I get up at 5am to make him coffee, make his lunch and then we leave by 5:20 to take him to work. It’s very early for me, but I’m getting used to it. The past two mornings it’s been around -18 degrees and it’s so dang cold. Even though we bundle up it still hurts just to walk to the car. So I drop him off at work and go back to the apartment to sleep another hour. I get the luxury of enjoying the amazing fitness center on base, and I’m loving it. I’ve also been doing all sorts of shopping for the bed & breakfast: thrift stores, antique stores and such. I’ve found the best deals on artwork and antiques. I’m enjoying it so much. By the time I workout, get ready, make lunch, and shop for the B&B it’s time to pick up Chet from work. We’ve been having happy hour and making delicious dinners. I’m having the time of my life.
As I mentioned before it’s been very cold here and I’m learning what life is like living in the snow. It’s a lot different from anything I’ve ever lived in. Here’s a few things so you can get a brief idea of living in the snow:
It takes a lot longer to get ready to go outside because you have to layer and wear very warm clothes, especially when it’s in the negatives. You can’t just slip on your sandals and go outside.
When your car is parked outside and it’s been snowing all night, every time you open the door tons of snow falls in the car and then your sitting on the ice and your butt gets cold.
You have to click your feet every time you get in the car or else your floor mats will get soaked. We bought clear floor mats so that they wouldn’t get muddy but it’s inevitable that they will get ruined.
Today was the first day it was clear and sunny and you think about going on a walk but then you step outside and remember it’s -14 so the only exercise you can get is going to a gym.
Driving in the snow is another change for me, especially when the roads are covered in ice. This winter has been my first time driving with these road conditions. Sometimes it’s scary because you slide and can’t help it, but you just have to be very cautious.
Another thing is shoveling snow. Once we move to our apartment for good we (or should I say Chet) will be shoveling snow almost everyday.
But even with all I’ve explained about the annoying things with snow I still love it here! I know this is exactly where God wants us to be and I’m at peace with it. I’m blessed to have such an amazing husband.
Now Chet has left to go back to Great Falls for two in a half more weeks and I stayed home because we have a Marketing and Advertising lady coming this Friday to help us for the B&B. Chet and I will be apart for a week in a half. L I plan on flying out a week from Wednesday to spend the last week with him in Great Falls. I pray these next 10 days go by quickly, because I want to be back with my husband.
